Sharperlight offers a wide range of reporting and analytics functionalities through its web service, including dynamic tables, charts, and presentation reports.
The Publisher application simplifies the management and configuration of published queries, enabling filtering and direct web updates to ensure access to the most up-to-date data. The service provides multiple visualization options, ranging from basic HTML4 to advanced HTML5 representations.
Each published query has a unique web address, allowing easy access via browser or email. Publisher also features an intuitive WYSIWYG interface for generating reports in PDF, HTML, and Word formats, ensuring an optimal layout for every report.
The HTML5 dashboards are created and managed through a web browser and can be customized in terms of size and layout to optimize data readability.
Each tile within a dashboard can contain Publisher content or valid web links, with zoom-in options for more detailed viewing. Dashboards can integrate data from multiple sources and, thanks to their unique URLs, can be easily embedded in any compatible browser.
Dashboard tiles can automatically align or overlap, offering customization options through colors and command descriptions.
Sharperlight Excel simplifies access to the Query Builder and drilldown functionalities for users.
Sharperlight queries are directly embedded into spreadsheets, enabling guided creation of various types of reports. The formulas support cell references and, thanks to automatic recalculation, results update dynamically whenever filters are modified or recalculation is triggered.
Compatible with Excel versions 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 (formulas, cells, tables, and worksheets), as well as Office 365, the add-in allows users to easily access cell filters and automatic search windows with a simple double-click on reference cells.
Sharperlight offers multiple data acquisition modes, providing flexibility in retrieving the required information.
Through the Sharperlight Add-in component in Microsoft Excel, it is possible to load batches of records, either with direct validation or by overwriting existing data, a process that interprets and updates input values in the data source in real time. On the web, Sharperlight also enables the creation of forms with editable data fields and grids.
Data updates are managed securely, following predefined rules and constraints: lookup lists are validated during data entry to ensure accuracy, with errors identified and corrected at the input stage rather than during query processing.
Data capture is performed via the Sharperlight Web Service, without the need for a direct connection to the target system.
Scheduler is an automation interface designed to execute regular or customized tasks. Each task can include multiple actions and can be scheduled or triggered manually.
It includes an option for report generation, allowing users to archive, save, and send reports via email. Additionally, it can create, assemble, and distribute packages containing multiple reports.
Scheduler is available only with the installation of 5 or more full licenses.
Agile Datamarts allows users to organize query data into a dataset which, through summarization, helps effectively visualize performance and the consistency of costs/services.
Its interface, called Materialized Query, enables the design and population of physical tables based on a query.
Data can be updated at any time, scheduled, or stored chronologically as historical data. Queries are presented to the end user as a datamodel, and therefore can be analyzed using the standard Sharperlight functionalities.
The Datamodel is an application framework that manages complex interactions within operational databases, controlling data flow through an abstraction layer.
These models, developed using Studio Designer, encapsulate data structures, relationships, and business rules. Beyond data definition, Datamodels provide a rich command language, enabling customized access to data based on user type or information needs.
Being multi-language, it allows the combination of .NET code, WinForms packages, and web content. While many customers use Sharperlight for spreadsheet integration, reporting, and dashboards, the Datamodel goes further by offering a secure gateway and web service to unify data from multiple sources. It also provides tools for the rapid creation of Datamodels based on the required data types and content.
The Datamodel and application interfaces are protected on the server through Site Setup.
User authentication is available via native login, using Windows authentication, Active Directory groups, and LDAP groups.
The Report Designer provides precise control over report layout and page positioning, overcoming the printing limitations typically found in web browsers. It uses an external library with an intuitive graphical (WYSIWYG) design interface, automatically integrating data from Query Builder.
It allows detailed control over the placement of report objects and business documents, ensuring pixel-perfect positioning of fields. Reports can be created either through the Sharperlight Web Service or locally using the Sharperlight client.
Reports can be displayed in PDF and native HTML formats, with support for output in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Sharperlight has implemented the MQTT messaging protocol to leverage the advantages of lightweight messaging.
This protocol follows a publish-subscribe model, where the publisher sends messages to a server (broker), which then distributes them to clients subscribed to a topic. MQTT enables data collection from multiple devices and transmission to other control systems. Sharperlight can operate both as an MQTT client and as an MQTT server.
The Scheduler can host the MQTT server (broker) and can be associated with a service code, authenticating users based on site configuration or designated user accounts. An MQTT server query table is available, similar to the Datamodel, and can be used within Query Builder to return the latest stored data values for each topic.
JavaScript libraries have been extended to include MQTT connection, publishing, and subscription functions, providing new options for message transmission.
